Privacy, Compliance & Accessibility

Educational Broadcast Guidelines • Self-Hosted Signage

1. Student Privacy Compliance (FERPA & COPPA)

HootieTube is strictly a unidirectional, broadcast digital signage system designed for classroom and hallway displays. The platform does not collect, track, process, or store any student personally identifiable information (PII), such as student names, identification numbers, photographs, academic records, attendance history, or device browsing data. Consequently, HootieTube is fully compliant with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by architecture.

2. On-Premises Data Sovereignty (Zero Cloud Exposure)

All media files (images, video loops, graphics) and configuration databases are stored strictly on the local host machine within the educational facility’s network. Media files are never transmitted to third-party public cloud storage buckets, advertising networks, or external telemetry vendors.

3. Cookie & Telemetry Policy

HootieTube uses zero tracking cookies, marketing pixels, or third-party analytics trackers. The application issues a single, encrypted, HTTPOnly session cookie strictly for authorized administrator authentication when managing display channels. Display players on Promethean boards do not require or use user cookies.

4. Display Accessibility (WCAG 2.1 & ADA Section 508)

In accordance with educational display guidelines, HootieTube is engineered with high-contrast color palettes (exceeding the 4.5:1 ratio requirement), scalable typography, and clear visual hierarchy to ensure announcements are easily legible for all students, staff, and visitors.
